Career is one of
the most important parts of our life. It helps us make a living and enjoy our
time on this wonderful planet.
On average most
humans spend 2/3rd of their life in a job. We are working and hustling most of
our lives.
But, many of us do
not enjoy what we do. We are forced to go to a job because of all the
responsibilities we have on our shoulders. If given a chance to quit the job
and go on a beach vacation for the rest of our lives, most of us would be the
first ones to pack our bags to leave.
First, what is working with passion means?
When you love your
job and work with passion, even if you are offered a full-time vacation for
your whole life, you would probably deny it because you enjoy being in work and
doing what you do.
I would obviously
deny the offer of vacation because I have found the purpose of my work. For me,
quitting my job and spending the rest of my life on an island makes no sense
because I love what I am doing. I know that I am impacting lives and helping people
elevate. I cannot ask anything more fulfilling than this.
The point is to ask yourself the question, If I had a chance to quit my job and go on vacation will
I do it? ( Also here all your responsibilities have been taken care of) If your
answer is 'Yes', then please continue reading.
As I said earlier,
we spend an enormous part of our lives in our work. While that is the case, why
can't we just feel good about it? Can you feel bad and frustrated about the job
change anything? Probably, No. So can we find happiness in things we do!
1. Find Perspective
There’s a famous story about the two
bricklayers.
When asked about their work, one complained about how
miserable his job was.
The other one responded differently…
“I’m the luckiest guy in the world,” he said. “I get
to be a part of important, useful, and beautiful pieces of architecture. I turn
simple pieces of brick into exquisite masterpieces.”
They were both right. The difference was in their
perspective and mindset.
In the same way, you can find a perspective in the work
you do. Even if it is boring and monotonous work, you can find your purpose
there.
All you should do is, sit with yourself and ask
questions...
"What is this job doing to me?"
"How is this job serving other people and the
world?"
"What am I doing with the money I get from this
job?"
"Does everyone have the privilege of having a
career?"
These are some questions you can ask yourself to
remind yourself about the purpose of doing that job. Be grateful that you have
a job in hand and food on your plate because of that job.
When you start feeling thankful for that job, you will
automatically create a positive environment which will make you love that
job.
2. Don’t overload
Do not overload your work. This is the main reason why
most people end up hating their jobs. Some work might require your complete
attention.
These jobs will also force you to exclude your time
spent with your family.
When you overload yourselves or bring work home,
you will mostly lose the family bond. This will bring more irritation and you
will eventually end up cursing the job rather than feeling grateful for it.
At times like these, you have to talk to your
manager/boss and schedule your time accordingly. When you are forced to work
beyond your limited then demand rest and pay rise.
But importantly, talk to your boss. It is not ok to
accept every load you are given.
3. Do what you love in your free time
This is the most enjoyable part. On your weekends,
spend time doing what you love.
If you love music, then learn it. You can paint, sing,
dance or do whatever you want to boost your mood in your free time.
You can also build a side hustle in what you love on
your free time.
This will help you love your job because you know that
your day job is keeping you fed and clothed and gives you the privilege to work
for your dream job.
4. Take care of your health
When we are in a stressful job, we mostly tend to
avoid our health.
We give excuses like I deserve pizza or I am too
stressed to go to the gym. We neglect our physical health. This, in turn, will
affect your mental health also.
Being healthy is a prerequisite to have a good
experience with your job.
Exercising also naturally boosts your mood and will
elevate your productivity level.
So, always make it a priority to take care of your
health. Everything else can wait!
5. Give your work a structure and fun
If you are stressed in your work because your work is
chaotic and anxious then bring in structure to your work. Organize the things
and set up each level to accomplish.
Draw mind maps and progress through it. This will give
your work a structure and you will be able to work more efficiently and less
stressfully.
If your work is monotonous and predictable then bring
fun in there. Hear music while working. You can take breaks and in between, you
can do something that you love. You can also learn methods to make your work
more fun.
6. Form social bonding's
Find friends in work. Talk and chat about
your favorite movies. Find people that do the same kind of work you do and
connect with them.
Have fun while working. Having people around you can
make you feel less stressed. Crack jokes with them and help them with their
work.
When you have people who are looking up to you then
you will feel less stressed and you are likely to enjoy the environment and the
job.
7. Set goals and deadlines
Even if you do not enjoy what you are doing, it is
important to set a deadline because it will help you be more productive.
When you put
yourself on a deadline, suddenly, the impossible tasks become doable. You
become laser-focused and you also love to experience such a boost in
productivity.
Deadlines can also
move you to a flow state where you are extremely concentrated on your job.
These situations might make you love the job you do because of the feeling you
get when you are in the flow state.
All the best!
