Self-confidence is
like salt in our food. Without salt, the food does not taste good no matter
how much ever ingredients you have in it. In the same way, you cannot call your
life happy and successful without self-confidence in it. It is the most important
ingredient needed in your life.
Self-confidence will push you out of your comfort zones. It will help you try the impossible.
Moreover,
self-confidence will build your self-image. It will enhance the quality of the
life you live in.
While
self-confidence might also help you remove your fears, it will also strengthen your success factor in life.
Understand,
self-confidence is about yourself. It is about how much you believe in you.
Don't confuse self-esteem (whether you believe you are worthy of
respect from others) and self-confidence (The belief you have in yourself) and
get everything wrong.
1. Practice positive self-talk
Never ever underestimate the power
you have over you.
Be your best criticizer and the
strongest supporter. Don't ever degrade yourself. This might result in serious
damage to your self-confidence
For example, Imagine you have to give
a presentation in front of your managers and clients. You have prepared well
for the presentation but still, you feel that you are going to stammer and you
will forget the context of the presentation.
You tell yourself that "I am
weak", "I am going to stammer in front of everyone", "Everyone is going to laugh at
me". You imagine all possible negative events that might happen to you.
And guess what, your self-confidence will dip down into the dungeon at the time of
presentation and you will suffer for sure.
2. Don't wait for the motivation
People who lack self-confidence are always waiting for the unknown to show up and bless them
with confidence. If you are waiting for that remember that you have to wait for
a long time.
Motivation always
follows action. And when you put action into anything, you will gain
confidence.
Confidence is inbuilt. It is not given by someone to you. So stop waiting for motivation to
gain confidence and actually start being confident.
3. Measure your progress
For many people,
self-confidence lies in the end result of whatever they are doing.
For example, a
politician loses all his confidence once he lost in the election. As a result of
this, he was not able to even think of registering for the next election. The
fear of failure has sunken him down.
Your self-confidence
need not be based upon the mere outcome. It depends on how to progress in the
process.
First of all, it
needs great confidence to start any task. You are already winning there. So
don't accumulate all your confidence to let it shine only at the times of
success
4. Visualize success
This method is the most effective method of building self-confidence.
Let's take the same
example of giving a presentation. Now, before giving the actual presentation.
Visualize yourself giving a perfect presentation. Visualize your managers
praising you for the great content. Imagine your colleagues appreciating your
effort. Practice talking to yourself before talking in front of others.
This might give you
a sense of relief and boost your confidence level. It will also create a
positive attitude before you start the presentation.
5. Do one thing that scares you
everyday
This is a good
method to eliminate your fears. Suppose, you are fearing to send your resume to
another company because you are not confident enough about your skills. Then, what
you should do is just sending it out.
You have to conquer
fear by taking control. You cannot leave fear takeover.
Once when you have
done something that scares you, then the fear will lose its power. You no
longer will be scared. As a result, your confidence might increase.
6. Accept compliments
Most of us tend to avoid compliments saying
"You are just bluffing" or "That doesn't count".
Leave this bad habit
of neglecting your compliments. Compliments are meant to be savored not thrown
away.
When you accept
compliments, the belief you have in yourself will increase tremendously.
7. Don't compare yourself with
others
One of the greatest
threats for your self-confidence is the mentality you carry by comparing
yourself with others.
Everyone in this
world is unique, there is no one like the other. And not everyone is perfect.
The person you are comparing yourself against would have many hidden flaws.
You are actually comparing your flaws with the success of the other person.
The only person you
need to compare against, is yourself.
8. Observe your behavior
Observation is the
best teacher. At times when you feel
that you are under-confident observe how you feel and how you behave.
Take note of how
you stand, how you talk, your eye moment and everything. When you observe your
behavior, you will know where you are lacking. This might help you in enhancing
the areas you are lacking in.
9. Practice self-care
Caring for yourself
will boost your self-confidence.
Eat food that makes
you feel healthy, exercise regularly, take care of your body and mind. Learn
new things, talk with people around you. Make yourself happy. This activity
will help you to boost confidence levels higher.
10. Love yourself more
This is the simplest
solution for everything. When you actually love yourself more, you will not
compare yourself against anyone. You will not have any negative self-talk. You
will be more confident in the way you walk and talk. You will take good care of
yourself. You will do everything possible to enhance the quality of your life.
This itself will give you a lot more confidence in your life.
