Why you should stop playing PUBG? | Mental illness due to game addiction

PUBG aka Players Unknown Battle Ground is the most popular game worldwide. PUBG is also known for its addictiveness. People who claim to play PUBG say that it is really difficult to give up the game. Some video games may enhance problem-solving skills and develop multi-tasking whereas violent games like PUBG will disrupt the mental health of the player.

The source of addiction for all the games is the adrenaline it gives when winning the game and moving to the next level. PUBG's core adrenaline is from standing as the last player in the game and winning the chicken dinner. Also, the other important nature of this game that makes it addictive is the human connection with other players.

Paul Ohri, the chief editor at Momspresso says that "Because you are playing with real people and can interact with them, players, especially children, lose the distinction between real and virtual. Ultimately there is a huge effect on the mental health of the child. The game allows you to gang up and harm another player -- a dangerous behavior they may take into the real world,"

She also adds that "Most games, even the violent ones, test your skills and reflexes. Here, it goes beyond and ticks that very base human characteristic of taking great pleasure in spoiling the fun of other players. In PUBG, surviving a round means that 99 other people did not and that itself is a huge surge of adrenaline,"

Below are some of the effects of playing PUBG:

1. Losing personal commitments:

Playing PUBG and giving it more importance will cost you personal relationships and work commitments. You might also tend to lose family. Many children and young adults are reported playing PUBG even in family functions. Studies show that in UK, addiction to video games has led to many divorces.

2. Becoming less humane:

Violent games like PUBG will trigger your aggressive emotions and will get you involved in violent actions more frequently. Psychology says that people who are even exposed to violent games and movies tend to be more violent in whatever they do compare to those who are not exposed to such activities. The aggressive behavior that the player acquires will obviously make him less humane.

3. Increase the chances of mental disorder:

In 2018, the WHO (World Health Organization) added video game addiction to the mental disorder list. Playing PUBG/addictive video games will increase your standard of depression. Players will get easily stressed out due to the social isolation they have created around themselves for the sake of just a game.

4. Less productivity:

On average, people who play PUBG spend about 2 to 3 hours playing. This will affect their level of productivity which in turn will affect their career in adults and academic performance in children. Being less productive will be a serious threat to your work. This will all together imbalance your future.

5. Social Isolation:

Players are always seen isolated. This will lead to social isolation which causes anxiety/fear of facing public. Unlike the virtual world, In real world they will have to face people and circumstances. They might find it really difficult to cope up with expectations of the society.
